What a fascinating country. How did we get here?
As far back as summer 2016 my wife Molly, myself and our friends Ben and Anna were scheming a trip, and Cuba was the destination. The four of us were all working feverishly and needed a break to travel to warmer climes, and to jar ourselves out of the winter drudgery of living and working in Maine. In the end, the unfortunate reversal of the trend toward openness and ease of travel to Cuba presented us with an interesting question: where do we go instead? Several ideas were floated, all interesting. In the end, I think we chose wisely.
What is Portugal? Is it Pseudo-Spain? I don't think so. Is it Europe's playground? Perhaps. However you want to classify this particular sliver of Iberia, it's worth taking your time to visit. Cities, countryside, wine, food, culture, history. This little country on the fringes of Western Europe has it all in spades.
